Healthy Oceans, Healthy People: Brand Identity Design

The problem.

In 2020, as part of the annual donation we make to 1% For the Planet, we donated a logo design to their network auction and were so delighted when Healthy Oceans, Healthy People won the bid. As a small non-profit, Healthy Oceans, Healthy People were looking to build a brand identity that successfully positioned them as the positive, action-oriented, ocean-focused organization that they are. Healthy Oceans, Healthy People came to the project knowing that they wanted a brand identity that showed the connection between people and the oceans and their proud representation of California, where they are located.

Our solution.

After working closely on brand strategy with Healthy Oceans, Healthy People, we came to understand how vital surfing and surf culture is to their mission of protecting the oceans through education and research. By exploring an untapped intersection between surf-inspired design and non-profit design, we developed a brand identity for Healthy Oceans, Healthy People that positions them as experts and a credible organization but also one that is lively and full of action. Most importantly, we connected people with the ocean and demonstrated how inseparable they are. 

The result.

Healthy Oceans, Healthy People walked away from our brand identity design project with more value than they expected to receive. In addition to surprising Healthy Oceans, Healthy People with brand strategy, we also provided them with a logo design that represents their core mission and values, a colour palette that reflects their action-oriented approach and surf inspired roots, and a brand guideline that they can use to guide their organization forward.
